Patient Simulation Course Offerings
The Department of Anesthesiology offers realistic and immersive patient simulation educatoin courses for anesthesia care providers, physicians, nurses, residents and other healthcare providers. Our simulation program is endorsed by the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
Simulation Experience in Perioperative Myocardial Ischemia
- CME: 4.25 Credit Hours
- 2009 Dates: June 10th, September 9th, December 9th (minimum of 3 participants required)
- Time: 10:30 AM to 3 PM (lunch will be served)
- Cost: $500
- Target Audience: Anesthesia Care Providers
Course Overview: Participants will manage a series of adverse cardiovascular events in a simulated perioperative setting. Following each scenario, there will be a short debriefing session. Simulations will be conducted in the Center for Patient Simulation; a facility configured as an operating room with a high fidelity full body simulator located within the School of Medicine at the University of Utah.
Learning Objectives will focus on:
- Developing a differential diagnosis and effective treatment plans in a time sensitive manner.
- Effective communication, controlling chaos, organizing thoughts, and maintaining professionalism during an adverse event.
- Characterizing cardiac function real time, understanding the capabilities and limitations of standard ASA monitors, echocardiography, and invasive monitoring to detect sources of ischemia.
